"Rascal" by Sterling North (Updated)

Image from Amazon
Rascal by Sterling North is about a young boy who after his dog digs up a raccoon’s nest, takes a baby raccoon for a pet and names it Rascal.  This is a fun read for young readers and older people who are young at heart.  Rascal and his young owner, Sterling, get into all kinds of mischief.  I enjoyed it very much!

Karen's review, 3 stars:
Rascal by Sterling North is a cute read about a 12-yr.-old boy and his pet raccoon during World War II.  It has some very funny parts and when he goes camping for two weeks, I felt I was right there with him.  This isn't by any means a page turner though and parts of it seemed to drag a bit, but it's short and I enjoyed the connection the boy had with the raccoon.  I enjoyed the illustrations as well.

"Since You've Been Gone" by Morgan Matson

Since You've Been Gone by Moran Matson is told by Emily, a young teen girl, who has a best friend named Sloane.  One day she received a letter that has a list of things for her to do from Sloane.  But Sloane is nowhere to be found!  What is on the list?  Does she complete it?  And where oh where is Sloane?  I really enjoyed this book a lot.  The writing is very good and I always looked forward to picking it up again.  It has a really, really good ending too!

Tuesday Teasers

Karen's:
But we couldn't have been more surprised when a furious mother raccoon exploded from her lair screaming her rage and dismay.  Wowser nearly fell over backward to avoid the flying claws and slashing little teeth.
From page 19 of Rascal by Sterling North.
I'd hoped for days that they would find the real killer.  But then I realized that they weren't even looking, and they sure weren't looking now.
From page 84 of That Night by Chevy Stevens.

Gerard's:

All three guys were now staring at me, clearly just waiting for me to leave.  But if I left Sloane's house--if I ceded it to these strangers in yellow T-shirts--where was I going to get more information?
From page 7 of Since You've Been Gone by Morgan Matson.

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should  Be Reading. Anyone can play along, so I thought  I  would play for fun! Just do the following
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page (well, we cheat and choose specific ones)
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on  that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away!   You don’t  want  to  ruin the  book for others!)
  • Share the title and author, too, so that other TT participants can  add the book to their TBR  Lists  if they  like your teaser.

Happy Reading!

"In The End" by Demitria Lunetta (We Both Liked This)

In The End by Demitria Lunetta is the sequel to In the After.  Amy has escaped from New Hope and is headed to Fort Black, a safe haven, or is it?  When she finds out that Baby, a girl that she befriended in the first book is in danger, she will stop at nothing to save her.  Like the first book, this too is a real page turner, filled with a ton of action!  Amy is so good!  I really enjoyed this one too!  Loved the ending and liked both of these books a lot.
(Gerard's review, 5++ stars)

In The End by Demitria Lunetta continues from where In the After left off with Amy on her own.  She goes to Fort Black where she finds desperate people who are happy to be there because at least they feel safe from the Floraes--former humans who have become monsters.   She finds out it is the home of many criminals and soon finds romance and danger from those in charge.  She is on a quest to save her sister from Dr. Reynolds.  This book is filled with lots of action and some very exciting parts.  I liked it and it went fast.  The ending is very good!
(Karen's review, 4 stars because it isn't very believable)

"Graduation Day" by Joelle Charbonneau--Both Liked This One! (Updated)

Graduation Day is the third and last book in this series.  In this one, Cia has been asked to do something she would find unthinkiable to do, but will she do it?  You will have to read the book to find out what that is.  There is pretty good action in this book and liked some of the twists that I did not see coming.  Overall, it is a very good series!
(Gerard's review, 5 stars)

Graduation Day by Joelle Charbonneau is a book that was hard for me to put down. It is a YA Dystopian quick read, the third book of The Testing series. In order to put a stop to The Testing, Cia has to make some tough decisions that include murder for the good of the country. Will she go through with it? Who can she trust? Can she be the leader she wants to be? Does she have what it takes? I liked the action, the bit of romance and the fact that the author shares Cia’s thought process with the reader throughout the book. I liked it a lot, but was a bit disappointed in the ending. I’d love to hear what others thought of this series.
