"Somebody Else's Daughter" by Linsey Lanier

Someone Else’s Daughter by Linsey Lanier is a good read about Miranda and how she was affected by her abusive husband who gave her baby up for adoption against her wishes.  She vowed that she would never be weak again and became proficient in self-defense.  She would get in fights sticking up for others which attracted Parker’s attention, a very successful private investigator who actually hired her as a PI trainee letting her help him solve the murder of a teen girl.

This book kept my interest from the start and kept me turning pages.  Miranda is a very strong woman with an edge that she uses to protect herself from getting close to people and getting hurt.  It is a good murder mystery which takes the reader through the crime investigation step-by-step.  This is the first book in the Miranda’s Rights Mystery series and I look forward to reading more!

Teaser Tuesdays--4 Today

Gerard's:

But then he had always been clever.  If only he used his brain for something constructive, instead of just finding endless--and sometimes ingenious--ways to make her life hell, he might be a happier person himself.

An elderly gentleman in a black sedan pulls over into the slow lane, and I speed up guiltily.  I am ashamed of my actions now, and of the sense of panic that moved into our home when Rick left us.

Karen's:

He hurled the suitcase into the snow on the front yard.  It broke open and her clothes tumbled onto the snowy grass.  Then he gave her a hard shove.

"Want You Dead" by Peter James is Fantastic!

Want You Dead by Peter James centers on two people who met online--Red, a young woman and Bryce, a young man.  They had a relationship going until Red broke it off and Bryce wants Red back in the worst way.  This is a fantastic read--action packed to be sure and a real page turner!  Give this book a chance.  You will be glad you did.  I LOVED it!

"The Inheritance" by Tamera Alexander (Christian Historical Fiction)

The Inheritance by Tamera Alexander takes place in Colorado during the late 1800s.  McKenna and Robert Ashford, older sister and 14-yr-old brother, move to Colorado to live with their cousin until they can get a fresh start when they cannot make the payments on their home and livery business their parents left them.  When they get to Colorado, they find things are not at all what they expected.  McKenna soon finds herself struggling to be a mother to her cousin’s little girl, Emma, when her cousin died in childbirth shortly after McKenna and Robert arrived.

This is a good Christian historical fiction novel about a rocky relationship between a sister and her rebellious brother whom she feels sorry for and responsible for.  I liked the main character and of course the predictable ending that is characteristic of Christian fiction.  The story line with Robert and the U.S Marshall added an interesting dimension to the book.  It has discussion questions in the back for book club use.

LOVED "Mr. Mercedes" by Stephen King

Mr. Mercedes by Stephen King centers on two men—Mr. Mercedes who mowed down people with a car and got away with it and a retired detective, Bill Hodges.  When Bill receives a letter from Mr. Mercedes taunting him for not catching him and vowing to do it again, Bill gets back into the case and wants to catch Mr. Mercedes.  I loved this book which is “vintage King.”  It kept me turning pages saying “Wow, this book is good!” over and over.  What a great book to start 2015 with.
