"Whistle" by Linwood Barclay

In Whistle by Linwood Barclay, Annie has had a rough year.  Her publisher finds her and her son a house in an out-of-the-way place, a small town in upstate New York.  Now Annie can get back to doing what she does best--writing books!  I have read a few books by this author, but this one is by far his best!  It is filled with twists and turns with plenty of action which is why I enjoyed it so much.  I always looked forward to reading it and had to force myself to put it down so it would last longer.  Stephen King said this one was "Terrific" which made me want to read it.  He was right!  (Gerard's review, 5++ stars)

"The Art Thief--a true story of love, crime, and dangerous obsession" by Michael Finkel

The Art Thief--a true story of love, crime, and dangerous obsession
by Michael Finkel is a short but true story about Stephane Breitwieser, an art thief.  He would steal art from museums and churches in Europe while his woman friend served as a lookout.  I thought this was really a fascinating book.  I enjoyed reading about what he was thinking as he was stealing the art.  It's good!  One of my favorite nonfiction books!  (Gerard's review, 5++ stars)

"Sunrise on the Reaping" by Suzanne Collins

Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins disappointed me.  I was hoping Katniss would return as a mentor, but no.  That did not happen.  Haymitch, the main character was good, but not as good as Katniss was.  I couldn't help making comparisons.  The first part of the book pretty much dragged along for me and I didn't care for all the poetry in it.  I liked it a lot though when they finally got to the arena, but was very disappointed in the ending.  (Karen's review, 4 stars)

Gerard's review:
In Sunrise on the Reaping by Suzanne Collins The Hunger Games are back.  A young teen boy and a young teen girl try to outwit and survive the 50th annual Hunger Games against twice as many tributes as before!  Haymitch from District 12 understands he has been set up to fail, but there's something in him that wants to fight.  I was into this book from the start.  It has good action and twists and turns.  I LOVED IT!  (5++ stars)

""Three Wild Dogs (and the truth) by Markus Zusak

I had to wait a long time to read Three Wild Dogs (and the truth) by Markus Zusak, but it was worth it!  The author tells the story of his three dogs.  These dogs were active to say the least.  If you have or had a dog, you will love this book.  I LOVED IT!  (Gerard's review, 5++ stars)

"Last Dog on the Hill" by Steve Duno

I have not read a good dog book in a while so I really enjoyed Last Dog on the Hill by Steve Duno.  It is about a dog named Lou told by his owner.  This book tells the true story of Steve Duno who befriends a dog named Lou.  What a great bond they had!  Steve really trained Lou well and Lou taught Steve a few things as well.  Lou is a great dog who reminds me of how blessed I have been to have two wonderful dogs:  Abby and Roxy.  (Gerard's review, 5++ stars)

"The Games Gods Play" by Abigail Owen

In The Games Gods Play by Abigail Owen, it is time for the gods to play their games.  They each pick a human to play for them.  What kind of games do they play and what do the winners win?  I do not want to give any spoilers.  I will say; however, if you enjoyed Hunger Games, you will enjoy this!  I did!!  I am looking forward to the next book in this series!  (Gerard's review, 5++ stars)

"The Best of Friends" by Lucinda Berry

The Best of Friends
by Lucinda Berry is narrated by three moms of three teen boys who had an incident one night.  This book is full of family drama.  Read it and see how many of the mothers you like!  I liked this book very much.  I liked the storyline and the action in it!  It was hard to put down.  (Gerard's review, 5++ stars)

Karen's review:
I read The Best of Friends by Lucinda Berry because my husband said it was so good and the summary sounded good too.  It is about three good friends that played soccer together and their moms who were also good friends.  When one of the boys is killed at his friend's house, all the friendships start to unravel.  I liked how the story was told by the three mothers.  It kept my interest, but was disappointed in the ending.  This is a dark story with drugs, deceit, domestic abuse and trauma.  It was kind of depressing.  (4 stars)

"The Inmate" by Freida McFadden, A Wild Read!

The Inmate
by Freida McFadden is a quick read because the chapters are short and the whole book is like a puzzle with each chapter being a new piece.  I did not figure this one out at all!  I was way off track on this.  Brooke is a single mom, never married, but in a love triangle.  What was supposed to be a fun sleepover turned into a multi-murder.  Luckily, she got away before getting killed herself; however, the whole incident haunts her ten years later.  This is a good mystery and a thriller as well.  I think this one would be a good book club read since it even has discussion questions in the back.  I was flabbergasted
by the surprise ending but loved the epilog.  All I can say is WOW after reading this book!  I highly recommend it if you enjoy modern-day thrillers.  (Karen's review, 5 stars)

Gerard's review:
In The Inmate by Freida McFadden teen boys and three teen girls decide to party all night at Shane's farmhouse since his mom will be away.  It will be a night they will always remember!  This author is always on her game, and this is no exception.  It has a great storyline, interesting characters, and I never knew what was going to happen.  She definitely kept me guessing!  Freida McFadden is a master storyteller.  I LOVED THIS character driven murder mystery.  (5++ Stars)
