"The Puppet's Payback and Other Chilling Tales" by Mary Downing Hahn

The Puppet's Payback and Other Chilling Tales
by Mary Downing Hahn is a collection of short stories for middle school kids.  I enjoyed these stories myself.  Some are ghost stories.  (Gerard's review, 5 stars)

"The End and Other Beginnings" by Veronica Roth was Disappointing

The End and Other Beginnings by Veronica Roth is a collection of six short stories. The first one and the third one were okay, the other four, not so much. The writing was not very good at all.

Teaser from page 3 of (Inertia):  I didn't want to share a consciousness with Matt.  I didn't even want to be in the same room as him.

"Reporting For Duty--True Stories of Wounded Veterans and Their Service Dogs" by Tracy Libby

Reporting For Duty—True Stories of Wounded Veterans and Their Service Dogs by Tracy Libby contains 15 separate true stories about veterans, true heroes who have a lot to deal with just to get around day-to-day. They were united with dogs and their quality of life is so much better! I loved this book! The stories are so good and the pictures are wonderful! There is also other parts of the book that deals with how these dogs are trained and how dogs and people have a special bond.

"The Dog Next Door" - A Book for Dog Lovers!

The Dog Next Door edited by Callie Smith Grant is a collection of short true stories about people with dogs they love and why their dog meant so much to them.  It is by no means a “page-turner” but it is a heartwarming, relaxing read that shows how strong the bond can be between owner and dog.  I recommend it to any dog lover.

"Chicken Soup For The Volunteer's Soul"

Chicken Soup For The Volunteer's Soul is a collection of short touching, uplifting and inspirational accounts of volunteers serving in a variety of organizations. I especially liked the one about the old lady in the nursing home who was depressed because she couldn’t see her grandchildren but cheered up when a kid came to visit her who reminded him of her grandson. He appreciated her because he she was like a grandmother that he didn’t have. Another favorite of mine was the busy lawyer who took time out of her day to visit an animal shelter and helped find a home for a mother cat before all her kittens got adopted! She was one determined lady! There are many good stories about all different volunteers. It is an easy book to read a little at a time; I enjoyed it! Read it and I bet you will feel like volunteering!
