"Girl A" by Abigail Dean

Girl A
by Abigail Dean is a hard book to read.  It is based on a true story of parents who treated their kids in a bad way.  It jumps back and forth in time a lot!  It is told by each child which makes it very interesting.  When both parents are dead, it is time to move on, but who can and who cannot?  I forgot I read this one before so this is the second time I've read it!  (Gerard's review, 5 stars)

"Upgrade" by Blake Crouch

In Upgrade by Blake Crouch, Logan is feeling really good.  He sees things in sharper focus and he cannot pinpoint what it is.  Truth is, he has been upgraded for a purpose.  Other people are dying at an alarming rate!  What is going on?  Can Logan stop it?  I thought this book was really good, especially parts 2 and 3; and Logan was a great character!  (Gerard's review, 5 stars)

"Girl in Snow" by Danya Kukafka

In Girl in Snow by Danya Kukafka, a young teen girl is found murdered in a small town.  This novel is told by three people.  Cameron, a young boy who people say was stalking the girl; Jade, a girl who went to the same high school and interacted with the victim; and Russ, a cop who is looking for the killer.  I thought this book was good!  It had good flow and the characters were interesting to say the least.  (Gerard's review, 5 stars)

"Outsider" by Linda Castillo

The Outsider by Linda Castillo is about Gina, a dirty cop hiding out at an Amish man's farm putting him and his children in danger.  Her fellow dirty cops are after her because they believe she has a large amount of money taken from a bust and no longer trust her.  She once was a close friend of Kate Burkholder, the chief of police in the Amish community so asks the Amish man to get her to come.  Kate the only one she can trust.

This book is pretty good.  It kept me wondering if Gina was going to get killed, escape, restore her friendship with Kate, or be sent to jail.  I also liked the predicament Kate was in from an ethical standpoint and how she kept wondering how best to help Gina.  When old memories came back, she analyzed how things could have been done differently.  (Karen's review, 4 stars)

Gerard's review:
In Outsider by Linda Castillo, Gina is a cop who was partners with Kate Burkholder and best friend at the police academy.  Gina is running for her life and hiding on an Amish farm.  Kate is not sure she can trust her because of Gina's dark past.  This was pretty good.  The storyline kept me engaged and it has an action-packed ending that I liked.  This is a light read that does not require much thinking.  (4 stars)

"My Wife is Missing" by D. J. Palmer is a MUST Read!

My Wife Is Missing by D. J. Palmer is about a secret past and the effect it has on Michael's marriage to Natalie.  This is an intriguing story that kept my interest throughout.  While on vacation in New York, when Michael gets back from picking up a pizza, he finds his wife and his two kids gone including their luggage.  The only thing left behind was his son's teddy bear!  He is frantic trying to find her and a detective offers his help.

I liked Michael and felt sorry for him most of the time.  Natalie suffered from insomnia and suspected Michael was cheating on her.  This book had a wild chase, interesting characters, and a surprise ending!  It's quite a good mystery!  (Karen's review, 4 stars)

Gerard's review 6/7/22:
In My Wife is Missing by D. J. Palmer, a family vacation in New York City sounds good, but for Michael and Natalie, not so much!  Soon after they get to New York, while Michael is out getting pizza he comes back to find his wife and two kids gone!  Did someone take them?  or did they go sightseeing?

This book is so good!!!  You need to think while reading it.  Natalie is a great character and one of the best endings to a book ever.  This is a must read!  (5++ stars)

"The Counselors" by Jessica Goodman is Very Good!

The Counselors
by Jessica Goodman goes back and forth in time, so if you have a problem with that like my wife does, this book is not for you.  I thought this book was very good though!  Three girls loved going to camp and considered it their "perfect place."  Now they become counselors, but friendships will be tested and secrets revealed.  I loved the characters and the story line!  I was engaged in this book all the way.  (Gerard's review, 5+ stars)

"Notes on Your Sudden Disappearance" by Alison Espach

Notes On Your Sudden Disappearance
by Alison Espach deals with two teen sisters--Sally and Kathy.  They both like Billy, a well-known boy at the local high school.  One day all three are in the same car when an accident happens.  One of the sisters is killed and Billy will never be what he wants to be.  Can the other sister pick up the pieces?

When this book was clean, it was very good, but for some reason, the author had to put smut into it which ruined it for me.  (Gerard's review, 3.5 stars)

"Right Behind Her" by Melinda Leigh

In Right Behind Her by Melinda Leigh, Sheriff Bree Taggert is looking for closure.  It has been years since her parents were killed, but her dad is the main suspect in this murder-suicide.  This is an investigation of a cold case and Bree searches for the truth in this cold case.  Did her dad really do it?  This book was just okay.  It needed more action throughout, not just at the end which made for a good ending.  (Gerard's review, 4 stars)

"The Starter Wife" by Nina Laurin

In The Starter Wife by Nina Laurin, Claire marries a man 20 years older.  People say it is a mistake, but Claire is in love and life is good!  Later though, she and her husband are not on the same page anymore.  Claire will have to fight to save her marriage and find out if she knows what her husband is up to.  This novel starts out slow, but when it picks up it makes up for it and then some.  There are plenty twists and turns.  Put your thinking cap on for this one and do not believe everything you think you know!  (Gerard's review, 5++ stars)

"For Your Own Good" by Samantha Downing is Really Good (if you like Creepy, Twisted Characters)!

For Your Own Good by Samantha Downing is about deaths of two headmasters, three teachers, and a parent of a student at a private high school.  Mr. Crutcher, the teacher of the year, teaches English but is a creep as well as the main character!  This is not a very happy book, but rather quite sinister.  I must say, I flew through it because the story line was so compelling.  The reader knows from the start that Mr. Crutcher is behind the murders but I had to keep reading to find out if he gets found out.  This was quite the story with the twist of much of it being written from the murder's view.  (Karen's review, 4 stars)

In For Your Own Good by Samantha Downing, Teddy Crutcher is a good teacher.  In fact, he got the teacher of the Year award!  He tries to get the most out of all of his students.  Now if only the rest of the faculty will stay out of his way he can get on with doing his job.  If they do not, he has ways to handle that too.  I thought this book was really good.  I flew through it!  The writing and story line are very good!  I also loved all the characters and the great ending.  I loved it!  (Gerard's review, 5++ stars)

"Cross Her Heart" by Sarah Pinborough

In Cross Her Heart by Sarah Pinborough, Lisa lives for her daughter, her job and her friend, Marilyn.  However, Lisa can only keep her past hidden for so long.  When it comes out, her life as she knows it is over.  This book goes back and forth in time and a lot of the characters are unlikeable to say the least.  In spite of all that, I still enjoyed the book due to the story line and the unexpected twists.  I never knew what was coming next and loved the surprise ending!  (Gerard's review, 5++ stars)

"Hide" by Kiersten White is a Fun Read

In Hide by Kiersten White, 14 people play a game of Hide and Seek in an abandoned amusement park for a week!  One winner gets all the money.  The game lasts the whole day.  What would your strategy be?  This is good stuff.  The first part tells about the players and the action picks up once the game begins.  I enjoyed the main character, Mack, a lot!  I wanted her to win.  Liked the ending.  (Gerard's review, 5 stars)
