"The Family Game" by Catherine Steadman

In The Family Game by Catherine Steadman, life is good for Harriet.  Her new book is flying off the shelves!  She is engaged to a very handsome rich man and is about to have a baby.  One thing left to do is meet her future husband's family.  There are a lot of them who are also very rich.  When she meets her future father-in-law, he gives her a tape of a book he's been working on to listen to.  Then it's game time!

I think this book is outstanding with good characters and storyline.  I loved the ending!  (Gerard's review, 5++ stars)

"The Replacement Wife" by Darby Kane

In The Replacement Wife by Darby Kane, Elisa does not trust her brother-in-law, Josh, at all with good reason.  Women seem to come to a bad end when they are with Josh.  Now he has a new girlfriend.  Elisa wants to know the truth about Josh.  This book is really good, wild in a good way!  It has a good story line, a great ending, and does not go back and forth in time.  (Gerard's review, 5++ Stars)

"Insomnia" by Sarah Pinborough

In Insomnia by Sarah Pinborough, Emma's 40th birthday is coming soon.  She has been dreading this day for a long time.  Why? you ask.  You will have to read the book to find out!  I thought this book was very good.  Emma is a great character and I never knew what was going to happen next!  I loved the ending too!  (Gerard's review, 5++ stars)

Insomnia by Sarah Pinborough left me in a fog sort of.  The story line was so far out that I felt I wasted my time reading it.  The whole plot is about whether Emma is crazy and paranoid or not.  This book has an elaborate storyline that I felt moved too slowly.  I felt sorry for Emma but didn't think much of her husband.  There is some good action near the end and things do pick up so I didn't hate it.  I didn't really like the ending all that much, but was okay with it and glad everything was explained.  I do think it would make for an interesting book club discussion.  (Karen's review, 3 stars)

"Reckless Girls" by Rachel Hawkins

In Reckless Girls by Rachel Hawkins, six people take off on an vacation to an island paradise.  After a while, one person goes missing and another one is found dead!  What is going on?  Will the final four survive?  This book is okay.  The good story line kept me reading; however, none of the characters were really likeable.  I feel this needed more action, but I did stick with it.  (Gerard's review, 4 stars)

I thought this was really good!  The author did a great job with the storyline with a very interesting ending.  I LOVED IT!  (Gerard's review, 5+ stars)

"The Island" by Adrian McKinty is Going to be a Series on Hulu

I cannot say too much about The Island by Adrian McKinty without giving too much away.  I can tell you it is about a family vacation gone very badly!  This is full of action which I liked!  The story line is good and I enjoyed all of the characters.  It is going to be a series on Hulu so that should tell you how good this book is!  Highly recommended!  (Gerard's review, 5++ stars)

Karen's review:
The Island by Adrian McKinty is a thriller right from the start!  This is about a family vacation to Australia that turns into a nightmare!  This is about how the stepmom, Heather, fights for her life and tries to protect Owen and Olivia, her children.  This is a wild one that kept my interest.  Besides the adventure and fight to survive, I also enjoyed how Heather's relationship with her children improved along the way.  At times, it was hard to put down!  (Karen's review, 5 stars)

"Outsider" by Linda Castillo

The Outsider by Linda Castillo is about Gina, a dirty cop hiding out at an Amish man's farm putting him and his children in danger.  Her fellow dirty cops are after her because they believe she has a large amount of money taken from a bust and no longer trust her.  She once was a close friend of Kate Burkholder, the chief of police in the Amish community so asks the Amish man to get her to come.  Kate the only one she can trust.

This book is pretty good.  It kept me wondering if Gina was going to get killed, escape, restore her friendship with Kate, or be sent to jail.  I also liked the predicament Kate was in from an ethical standpoint and how she kept wondering how best to help Gina.  When old memories came back, she analyzed how things could have been done differently.  (Karen's review, 4 stars)

Gerard's review:
In Outsider by Linda Castillo, Gina is a cop who was partners with Kate Burkholder and best friend at the police academy.  Gina is running for her life and hiding on an Amish farm.  Kate is not sure she can trust her because of Gina's dark past.  This was pretty good.  The storyline kept me engaged and it has an action-packed ending that I liked.  This is a light read that does not require much thinking.  (4 stars)

"Hide" by Kiersten White is a Fun Read

In Hide by Kiersten White, 14 people play a game of Hide and Seek in an abandoned amusement park for a week!  One winner gets all the money.  The game lasts the whole day.  What would your strategy be?  This is good stuff.  The first part tells about the players and the action picks up once the game begins.  I enjoyed the main character, Mack, a lot!  I wanted her to win.  Liked the ending.  (Gerard's review, 5 stars)

"Verity" by Colleen Hoover is So Good!

In Verity by Colleen Hoover, Lowen is on the brink of financial ruin when she gets a big break.  he is picked to finish a book series with a huge money upside started by Verity.  Verity cannot finish it because of health issues.  While at Verity's house, Lowen comes across a manuscript not meant for publication, but cannot put it down.

Wow!  This book was so good!  It has a great story line and really good characters.  I found it hard to put down and the ending was fantastic!  Did not see it ending this way at all!  (Gerard's review, 5++ stars)

"The Wives" by Tarryn Fisher is a Wild One!

The Wives
by Tarryn Fisher is about a woman who only sees her husband one day a week.  Why?  Because he has two other women to whom he is married.  This book is told by Thursday because that is the day her husband shares with her.  I liked the main character and the story line that kept me engaged and guessing what would happen next.  I also liked the ending of this wild story!  (Gerard's review, 5 stars)

"Unmissing" by Minka Kent is a Shocker!

Unmissing
by Minka Kent is a fast-moving mystery that I enjoyed.  I has two big twists I didn't see coming and my opinion of the characters changed as the book moved along.  It kept my attention from the very first page and had no boring parts.  It's about Lydia, who is kidnapped right at the beginning of the book and is declared dead.  After missing for 10 years, she returns to find her husband who has remarried, owns several restaurants and has clearly moved on.  (Karen's review 3/24/22, 5 stars)

Gerard's review:
Unmissing by Minka Kent tells the story of a woman missing for ten years and comes back.  She comes back to a married couple to settle the score with the husband.  This is good stuff!  It is told by two women and goes back and forth so you do not expect what is coming.  The ending is really, really good!  (5 stars)

"Her One Mistake" by Heidi Perks

In Her One Mistake by Heidi Perks, Charlotte and Harriet are friends.  When Charlotte is looking after Alice, Harriet's daughter, she is fine with that until Alice turns up missing!  How could that have happened?  This book is told by both Charlotte and Harriet.  I thought this book was very good.  The story line kept things interesting and what I thought I knew, I really didn't!  This is a very enjoyable read that I highly recommend!  (Gerard's review, 5++ stars)

Karen's review:
Her One Mistake by Heidi Perks is about two friends and a missing child.  Charlotte finally convinces Harriet that it's okay to let Charlotte take Harriet's little girl, 4-yr.-old Alice, to the fair along with her own kids.  Unfortunately, when Charlotte's kids come off the ride, Alice isn't with them.  They look everywhere but can't find her.  The police and many people also searched for her but she is gone!

The surprise turn of events captured my interest.  This one had me fooled! It was narrated by both Harriet and Charlotte.  This might make for an interesting book club read.  I found myself first feeling sorry for Harriet and then for Charlotte.  I was wrong about what I thought happened to Alice as well!  (4 stars)

"The 20th Victim" by James Patterson & Maxine Paetro

In The 20th Victim by James Patterson there are three shootings all at the same time.  Were the planned and if so, who is behind them and why?  Put your detective hat on for this one.  There is good action throughout this book, but I would have liked to seen more character development.  That being said, the story line is strong enough to carry it.  (Gerard's review, 5 stars)
