The Hunger Games Movie Does Not Disapppoint

source:  Amazon.com
We went to see "The Hunger Games" movie today and both of us thought it was very good!  It followed the book really closely and my favorite scenes in the book were all in the movie too.  It cut out a bit of the beginning so the relationship between Katniss and Gale didn't seem as close as it was in the book.  Other than that, it moved along as I pictured it and was captivated throughout.  Gerard was on the edge of his seat and didn't get bored for 2 1/2 hours!

I couldn't imagine how the movie was going to capture the awesomeness of the fire costumes for District 12 but it did!  It really was fun to watch the book actually come to life. I felt sorry for him when he said he had no chance to win it.  The actors and actresses were all excellent!  We absolutely LOVED watching this!

I don't know if it would be better to see the movie before reading the book or not.  I'd love to hear from someone's thoughts on the movie who hasn't read the book.

The biggest plus for the books I think over the movie is that in the movie, we don't really know Katniss's thoughts like we do in the book, but the movie is GREAT!  If you want a peek, here is the link to the Official Hunger Games Movie Trailer.  We, of course, look forward to seeing the next movie of this series based on Catching Fire.

Please share your thoughts about the movie in the comments; we'd like to know what you thought about it.

Our review of the book.

  1. I saw the movie on Saturday. I really thought we might have trouble with seats but we went to a mid afternoon show and it was not packed but full. I did not read the book. Members of my family have read all 3 books. I did know the plot line before seeing the movie but not much else. I liked the movie. It certainly is a top movie. It was more violent than I expected. The scene with Rue dying had me questioning how humanity could ever allow children to be sacrificed like that. It was so senseless but history shows that human sacrifice has occurred. I found it strange that any of the players would team up since only one can survive. The Romero Juliet bit at the end was a surprise that I'm glad I didn't know was coming. What age child do you think should see this? I question young teens seeing it. I considered it almost as violent as "Saving Private Ryan".

    1. Bill: Thanks for sharing your thoughts but I have to disagree with you that it's close in violence to "Saving Private Ryan." The way this violence was handled for the most part simply showed the wounds after, not the actual inflicting of the wounds and it wasn't all through the movie like in that war picture. I felt the same way you did when I read the book--couldn't wait for the next one! As for age appropriateness, I think young teens would like it too.

  2. I haven't read the book, but I really liked the movie. It kept my attention, it made me think, it made me cry, it made me laugh at times. I'm not surprised it was sold out. We could barely find seats to the 5 pm showing on Saturday. I have been recommending it to everyone. I may read the book now that everyone says it's even better than the movie!

    1. We went early afternoon on a Monday to avoid the crowd and it worked. Glad you liked it! I cried when Rue died when I read the book but not when I saw the movie, perhaps because I knew it was coming. Definitely read the books--they are amazing and the characters are better developed because the movie had to condense it down some. Thanks for stopping by!
