"The Burning Room" by Michael Connelly is Slow and Boring

The Burning Room by Michael Connelly has Harry Bosch with a new partner, a young girl named Soto.  They are on a case of a 10-yr.-old murder that they are trying to solve.  The main problem I have with this book is that it just moves slow and the action is very limited.  Michael Connelly books are usually pretty good, but this is not one of them.

"The Black Box" by Michael Connelly

The Black Box by Michael Connelly is not one of his better books, but I got through it. It’s about a 20-yr-old murder case that people gave up on except not Harry Bosch. I almost stopped reading this but went back to it because I didn’t have anything else to read. I the best part is where all the pieces come together and the case is solved which was very good; however, getting there took persistence and determination.

"The Fifth Witness" by Michael Connelly is a MUST READ!

A MUST READ . . . or LISTEN (audio book)

WOW! The Fifth Witness by Michael Connelly is about a woman on trial for murder. She is charged with killing a man who is the head of the company that was suing to foreclose on her home. This is a fantastic story! I listened to the audio book and LOVED IT! The trial was very interesting and got my attention and held it. The ending blew me away. You have got to read (or listen) to this--it's a must read!

"The Lincoln Lawyer" by Michael Connelly (UPDATED-We Both Read This)

The Lincoln Lawyer by Michael Connelly is about Mickey Haller, a sleazy but likeable defense attorney whose ex-wives are his secretary and a prosecuting attorney.  Mickey is used to defending creeps but when he defends a rich realtor scumbag named Louis Roulet on an aggravated assault charge, he discovers his life and the lives of those he loves are in danger.  I am at a loss for words on this one because it portrays the justice system in a very bad light.  Some things were very disturbing to me but it is a good read.   (Karen's Review)

Whether you decide to see the movie or read the book, The Lincoln Lawyer by Michael Connelly is not to be missed! WOW! This is good! Mickey is a lawyer who drives around in a Lincoln (thus, the name for the book). He gets a case which seems like a slam dunk but it's not. This novel is full of twists and turns and a super plot will have you hooked with a fantastic ending! The Lincoln Lawyer is a must read!

Here is the link to my teaser from this book.

"Echo Park" by Michael Connelly

Echo Park by Michael Connelly is a fast-paced murder mystery involving conspiracy, deceit, politics, greed and justice. Harry Bosch is a detective in the unsolved case department of the LAPD and is determined to get to bring the killer of Marie Gesto to justice. Her body was never found but his instincts tell him that some rich guy with a bad temper was responsible. The problem was he couldn’t prove it, even after bringing him in for questioning on three separate occasions. Then he finds out that a serial killer has confessed to killing her as well. The only problem is, Harry doesn’t believe it even after talking with him face-to-face.

Harry confides in Rachel Walling, an FBI agent that he is attracted to, about his suspicions and she helps him in his investigation. They uncover a conspiracy with the killer to get him off. The theme is that everyone has choices which lead to what type of person you become.

I liked the action in this book as well as the insight into the thinking of Detective Bosch all through the book. The suspense and excitement when Harry was with the serial killer during questioning, in the woods and the final confrontation was riveting! You would think it would end there, but it doesn’t. I highly recommend this book if you like criminal law or mysteries and suspense when the good guys win in the end.

"The Overlook" by Michael Connelly

The Overlook by Michael Connelly is not your usual murder mystery.  Most of the novel centers on the crime investigation tension between the Los Angeles Police Department and the FBI when the homicide turns into a national security issue.    Harry Bosch is pretty much a rogue detective in the special homicide department who has a lot of experience and is breaking in a new young partner.  He cares more about solving his case than protocol which makes for tension between him and his new partner as well as Special Agent Rachel Walling of the FBI.  The murderer almost pulls off the perfect crime, manipulating the evidence to lead the investigators on a wild goose chase.  When Bosch and Walling finally share their findings with each other and get a lucky break, things become clearer and they solve the mystery.

This is a good crime story but moved sort of slow in the beginning but picked up speed as I went along.  I loved the chase scene at the end when Harry and Rachel teamed up and worked together on their own.  This one was not as thrilling or gripping as other mysteries I read.  It doesn’t have as much suspense as I like so does not get five stars from me.
