"The Coworker" by Freida McFadden

The Coworker by Freida McFadden is about revenge and what a story it is!  It is told from two points of view--Natalie's and Dawn's.  These two women are co-workers.  When Dawn turns up missing, Natalie becomes the primary suspect.  This book has an amazing plot that kept my interest throughout.  It's quite the elaborate mystery with lots of surprises along the way and an amazing ending.  WOW!  (Karen's review, 5 stars)

Gerard's review 3/16/24:
In The Coworker by Freida McFadden, you can always tell when Dawn is in the office because she arrives he same time every day and has no friends.  On day she is not at her desk.  Natalie, her co-worker, gets a phone call that changes everything.

Freida McFadden's books are very good and this is no exception.  It has plenty of twists and turns.  Good luck guessing how this one all plays out!  (5++ stars)

"One of Us Is Back" by Karen M. McManus (Book 3)

One of Us Is Back
by Karen M. McManus is the third book in the One of Us Is Lying series.  The whole gang is back and looking forward to a fun summer until one of them goes missing.  This is pretty good.  The characters were brought out well and the storyline kept me engaged.  It has good action with a nice finish.  This book has been made into a TV series on Peacock.  Unfortunately, I do not have it, but if I did, I'd be watching it.  (Gerard's review, 5 stars)

"The Senator's Wife" by Liv Constantine

In The Senator's Wife by Liv Constantine, Sloane and Whit (a Senator) are ready to move on after both of their spouses have passed.  Sloane is going to have a hip replacement and Whit hires a woman to look after her.  Is she a Godsend or is something strange going on?  This has a good storyline, but needed more action.  I liked the big surprise ending!  (Gerard's review, 4 stars)

"The Quiet Tenant" by Clemence Michallon is Really Good!

In The Quiet Tennant by Clemence Michallon, Aidan is a hardworking family man but is not a very nice man, especially toward women.  The story is narrated by those closest to him, his daughter, his girlfriend, and the one victim he spared.  I thought this book was really good!  I was into it from the first few pages.  It had good character development and the ending will have you turning pages quickly!  (Gerard's review, 5++ stars)

Karen's review:  8/14/23
The Quiet Tenant by Clemence Michallon is about a lady ("Rachel") who was taken by Aiden, a widower, and kept hidden first in his shed, then in his house for years.  Aiden has a daughter who only learned about her father's "guest" when they had to move and Rachel was brought into the house.  Rachel is the name given her by Aiden.  She discovers he has killed several other women and wonders why he hasn't killed her.  I wondered too!   I thought this book was just so-so.  It dragged along for me without much action or suspense.  It picked up at the end, but things seemed unlikely.  (Karen's review, 4 stars)

"The Soulmate" by Sally Hepworth

In The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth, Gabe and Pippa's house is near a cliff where people sometimes go to end their lives.  Gabe has a way of talking people off that cliff.  However, one day with Pippa watching, a woman and Gabe talk until the woman is falling off that cliff!  To Pippa, it looks like Gabe pushed her, but she doesn't really believe it!  Could he have?

Sally Hepworth is always good, but this book is fantastic!  The characters are really good and I thought I knew how it would end, but I was wrong!  LOVED THIS ONE!  (Gerard's review, 5++ stars)

"The Prisoner" by B. A. Paris

In The Prisoner by B. A. Paris, Amelie, wife of billionaire Jed, is kidnapped and held in a dark room.  She does not know why or by whom.  What she does know is that she feels safer than being with her husband.  You will have to read the book to find out why.

B. A. Paris's books always have good storylines and good characters; this is no exception.  This book goes back and forth in time, but I didn't mind that.  The ending is unbelievable!  (Gerard's review, 5++ stars)

"Foster" by Claire Keegan

In Foster by Claire Keegan, a little girl is sent to a neighbor's house because her mom is going to have a baby and cannot look after her.  She likes the people who look after her but finds out that there are secrets to be kept.  This is a short 92-page book that is okay.  I thought it was pretty good.  (Gerard's review, 4 stars)

"Girl in Snow" by Danya Kukafka

In Girl in Snow by Danya Kukafka, a young teen girl is found murdered in a small town.  This novel is told by three people.  Cameron, a young boy who people say was stalking the girl; Jade, a girl who went to the same high school and interacted with the victim; and Russ, a cop who is looking for the killer.  I thought this book was good!  It had good flow and the characters were interesting to say the least.  (Gerard's review, 5 stars)

"The Counselors" by Jessica Goodman is Very Good!

The Counselors
by Jessica Goodman goes back and forth in time, so if you have a problem with that like my wife does, this book is not for you.  I thought this book was very good though!  Three girls loved going to camp and considered it their "perfect place."  Now they become counselors, but friendships will be tested and secrets revealed.  I loved the characters and the story line!  I was engaged in this book all the way.  (Gerard's review, 5+ stars)

"One Two Three" by Laurie Frankel is Enjoyable

One Two Three by Laurie Frankel is told by three female triplets.  They live in a small town where everyone knows everyone and nothing much goes on.  When a moving van comes to town, it is big news!  This story is told very well.  I enjoyed the three girls who narrated it very much.  I was into it from page 1.  (Gerard's review, 5 stars)

"Crime Scene Connection" by Deena Alexander

Crime Scene Connection
by Deena Alexander is about Addison who witnessed her mother's murder as a 3-yr-old hiding in a kitchen cabinet.  She wrote a murder mystery and now is trying to figure out who is doing real murders based on those in her book before other get killed, including herself!  She thinks it might be her ex-husband who is a dirty cop and who was abusive to her.  Jace, Addison's ex-husband's ex-partner, and his dog, Phoenix, try to protect Addison and in the process fall in love.  Although the romance part between Jace and Addison was predictable, I was surprised at who the killer was.

This was a pretty good murder mystery with the personal journey of Addison and Jace learning to forgive and being drawn to each other.  It has suspense, mystery and romance all wrapped up together.  (Karen's review, 4 stars)

I thought this book was really good!  Maggie was a great character and so was Elodie.  Loved it!  (Gerard's review, 5++ stars)

"Dread Locks" by Neal Shusterman is Dreadful

Dread Locks
by Neal Shusterman was a dreadful for me.  I enjoyed many of his other books, but this one was too stupid.  The beginning was intriguing but that didn't last for long.  It's about Tara, a lonely teenage girl who turns people to stone and gives Parker her "gift."  I did not care for any of the main characters and really disliked Parker.  The best thing about this book is that it is short so didn't waste too much of my time.  Teens may enjoy it much more than I did though, as that is his primary audience.  Still, I would suggest you read other books by Shusterman instead of this one.  (Karen's review, 2 stars)

"Good Girl, Bad Girl" by Michael Robotham

In Good Girl, Bad Girl by Michael Robotham, Cyrus is a forensic psychologist.  He befriends a girl who was found hiding in a room in a house where a terrible crime took place.  It's been six years and they still cannot figure out who she is.  Cyrus is also called on to help find a killer of a young high school girl.  Can the no-name girl help solve this crime?

This book is good stuff.  The characters are brought out well and the story line has a good flow to it!  Cyrus is a great character as is "Angel Face" aka the No-name girl.  (Gerard's review, 5 stars)

I forgot I read this before in 2019.  Didn't remember it.

"The Guest List" by Lucy Foley

The Guest List
by Lucy Foley revolves around a wedding.  Jules and Will are going to be married.  However, when old friends get together, secrets begin to get revealed.  What should be happy ever after is not!  The story is told by various people.  It goes back to the past some but in my opinion, would have been better to be told chronologically.  There are some twists and turns and the ending was a bit of a surprise.  (Gerard's review, 4 stars)

Teaser from page 3:  The guests freeze.  They stare at one another.  They are suddenly afraid again.

"The Bright Lands" by John Fram

In The Bright Lands by John Fram, the small town of Bentley loves their high school football team.  The town has secrets and now the star quarterback goes missing before the biggest game of the year!  This might be the biggest secret of them all.

This novel is told by a bunch of people which added to the story in my opinion.  This is a wild book for sure, but in a good way with a few twists and turns.  I also liked the ending.  (Gerard's review, 5 stars)

Teaser from page 29:  "But they'd kill me if I went to the station.  I ain't even supposed to be here."

"You Are Not Alone" by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen

In You Are Not Alone, Shay's life is not going well.  Then one day Shay is befriended by the Moore sisters, Jane and Cassandra, which changed her outlook on life for the better.  However, Shay finds out that these sisters have secrets.

I thought this book was really, really good!  It flows well and all the characters were brought out well.  It has some twists and turns with a good ending.  (Gerard's review, 5++ stars)

Teaser from page 17:  One second she existed, and the next, she'd been erased.  I stagger over to a bench by the wall and collapse.
