Debut Novel: "Remember Mia" by Alexander Burt is a Real Page Turner! (Updated)

Remember Mia by Alexandra Burt is about Estelle Paradise who wakes in a hospital with amnesia, but realizes her 7-month-old daughter, Mia, is missing. She cannot remember the events that led up to her being admitted to the hospital quite far from her home. Her husband has no idea where their daughter is either, and the mother is the primary suspect, who suffered with postpartum depression that had progressed into psychosis. Estelle insists that someone took her baby and at her husband’s suggestion, admits herself into a psych ward to work with a doctor who helps her get her memory back.

I couldn't help but feel sympathy for Estelle and admire her courage as she pursued the truth.  I liked this book and thought the premise was quite interesting.  I didn't care for the husband because he didn't seem very supportive of his wife at all!  I liked the ending, although it was pretty far-fetched wrapped up so neat that it seemed unbelievable.

Remember Mia by Alexandra Burt is a thriller about Estelle Paradise who wakes up in a hospital.  She was found just about dead inside of a car that was in a ravine and totally wrecked.  Her memory is pretty much gone but she does know one thing--her newborn baby girl, Mia, and anything connected to Mia is gone!  Someone took her and Estelle needs to find her, but who will help when everyone thinks she did it?

WOW!  This book poses lots of questions:  Does she ever remember?  Where is Mia now?  What has her husband done to help her?  Books do not get much better than this!  It is a real page turner.  This is a must read if you enjoy thrillers.  The tension in this book mounts so well that I read it in only two days!  It was hard to put down.

We received an advanced copy of this debut novel and am so glad I did!  However, that did not influence our review.  It went on sale July 7, 2015.

"What She Saw" by Sheila Lowe was one we Both Liked! (UPDATED)

What She Saw by Sheila Lowe got me hooked right from the start with the woman having amnesia trying to figure out who she is and why she was on a train.  The more she discovers, the more puzzling and scary things get, like why she has two drivers licenses and two homes in different cities.   That's is all I'm saying because I don't want to spoil any surprises by revealing too much.

This is a very good story with lots of twists and turns throughout the book and a surprise ending.  I really enjoyed reading What She Saw.  It was so much fun reading how she figured out who she was that I found myself thinking about it even when I wasn't reading it!  There are some misspelled words, but the mystery and suspense kept my interest.  I highly recommend this one because it was hard to put down!

Gerard read this too, here's his review:
What She Saw by Sheila Lowe is about a woman who finds herself on a train but does not know why she is on it or even her name!  This is a fantastic read!  There is plenty of twists and turns, especially near the end.  Excellent writing got me drawn in from the get go.  This is a must read--doesn't get any better than this!  (5++ stars)

"Love Water Memory" by Jennie Shortridge (UPDATED)

Love water memory by Jennie Shortridge is an interesting story about an engaged couple, Grady and Lucie.  When they have a huge fight, Lucie leaves and doesn’t return.  Grady looks all over for her and eventually finds her in a hospital with amnesia, learning she was found standing in San Francisco Bay.  The whole book is about Lucie learning secrets from her past and getting her memory back while her and Grady try to rebuild their relationship.  It’s a good read but did not like it as much as Gerard did--both the main characters were likable.
(Karen's review)

Love Water Memory is told by Grady and Lucie, a couple who was going to get married until a huge fight. Eight days later, Lucie is found but remembers no one and nothing of her former life. I loved this book! It had me from page one and all the way through. My feelings about Lucie and Grady went back and forth. The writing was very good too. The only downside was that I was hoping for a better ending, but it does leave an opening for a sequel which would be good!

"My Life Deleted" by Scott and Joan Bolzam

My Life Deleted by Scott and Joan Bolzam sounded interesting to me so I got the book from the library.  Basically, the guy fell and hit his head which caused him to lose his memory.  He didn't know his family or who he was.  I skimmed about the last half of the book.  Basically he started his life over again.  It just didn't have enough action for me and the writing style did not hold my interest. It just plodded along.

"Before I Go To Sleep" by S. J. Watson

Before I Go To Sleep by S. J. Watson is No. 2 on Parade Magazine Books Of The Year!  (No. 1 is Faith which I read and loved.)  Amazon.com gives this book rave reviews and it is going to be made into a movie!  I'm here to tell you that this book lives up to the hype and more!  I am not sure I'll read another book that I was so into as I was this one.  I read it in two days.  It has a fantastic plot which makes it a real page turner.  I did not want to put it down and the ending is very good too!  No, make that great!  Read both "Faith" and "Before I Go To Sleep"--you will be glad you did!  I know I am. (Gerard's Review)

Karen's review:
Before I Go To Sleep by S. J. Watson started off slow to me, then got creepy and then a bit confusing.  It is about Chrissy, a woman who has a strange kind of amnesia.  When she sleeps, she forgets everything but when she is awake, she can function normally except for remembering her past or even what happened the day before.  It is written from her perspective and her doctor advised her to keep a secret journal and write in it each day before going to sleep what happened that day and what things she was able to remember or things she learned about.  That way she could read it the next day to refresh her memory.  I thought this book moved kind of slow for about the first 90 pages, but then things picked up.  I was completely wrong in what I thought about things.  The happy ending was a bit like a fairy tale but I'm glad I stuck with it and finished it.  It's a good read, an unusual story line.   I liked Iron House better.
