Soul Dog by Elena Mannes tells a true story.  Elena lives life with order.  She knows what she is going to do at work and it carries over into her life away from the office.  Order rules!  Now, she wants a companion and decides to get a dog.  Her world of order is soon to change.

If you are dog owner, you will enjoy this book!  The part of this book I enjoyed most was the interaction between Elena and her dog.  There was also a spiritual aspect to this book that I found interesting.

The Risk Factor:  Crossing the Chicken Line into Your Supernatural Destiny by Kevin and Chad Dedmon is like reading the Book of Acts except with modern-day miracles of healing.  This father and son share examples of how Christians today can unleash God’s power by taking a risk to pray publicly for Jesus to heal people.  They include scripture that inspires believers to exercise their faith by taking action and lots of examples of how God used them to bring healing to others which opened the way to share the gospel. 

This is certainly a thought provoking book that I really enjoyed reading.  If you ever wondered why we don’t see the miracles of healing today that were in Bible times, read this book!  It opened my eyes to see that God does still do miracles today, but that spirit-filled Christians must risk looking foolish to release God’s power through faith.  We have to break through the spirit of doubt, cross the chicken line (comfort zone) and go for it.

"This Star Won't Go Out" by Esther Earl with Lori and Wayne Earl

In This Star Won't Go Out --The Life and Words of Esther Grace Earl by Esther Earl with Lori and Wayne Earl, you get to know and meet a remarkable young lady, Esther.  This is her book and what a book it is—fun, thoughtful, loving and always interesting.  I went through a lot of emotions reading this one and was glad I had some tissue handy.  Esther’s friends talk about her and the bond they built with her.  These letters are the most touching part of the book.  Her mom and dad write in it too, and her dad’s eulogy at the funeral was so good!  I wish I could have met Esther.  This book will stay with me a long time!

You know, I have a really great attitude about all this cancer thing.  I smile, laugh and joke about it.

"The Shack" by William P. Young

This will renew your faith! This is just an outstanding book. It will renew your faith in God and answer questions you might have about things. It's like a Bible study that's down to earth, nothing fancy. Machenzie Allen Phillip tells a super story. If you need a hug from God, please read this book.

"The Shack" is an interesting fiction book about a father's distrust of God for not protecting his little girl from being kidnapped and murdered, and then not even being able to find her body. The father got to talk to God face-to-face at the shack and see a glimpse of heaven and eventually got to the point where he forgave the man who murdered his little girl. Interesting book but really unbelievable. Presents God as compassionate, loving and just even when things happen that we don't think should. Emphasis was placed on trusting God and being dependent on Him rather than ourselves. The most important point for me was when we question God, we are really judging Him based on only our limited knowledge--we don't know everything God does. It was interesting how through Mack's face-to-face conversations with God, the book gives some insight into God's nature but some things are not biblical. It did make me look at my relationship with God but is not entirely Biblical so when you read this book, you need to keep in mind that it is fiction.
