"Chasing Jenna" by Micki Fredricks

Chasing Jenna by Micki Fredricks is about a young girl who goes to college and is befriended by two young men. For the first part of this there is a love triangle story where Jenna is torn between the two guys.  The second part is more exciting because the action picks up.  I understand that the first half sets the scene, but I thought dragged on too long but I loved the ending!  It's well worth reading for sure, glad I stuck with it.

Chasing Jenna is written by Micki Fredricks an Iowa blogger and was just released last month.  I received an ARC of this from the author when I offered to review it.  It is about Jenna, a poor girl from a small town who grew up in an abusive home but is excited about going off to college away from her hometown.  As she is moving in, some boys come by to help her with her things and show her around.  Jenna and her roommate immediately fall for them and find out that The Brotherhood they belong to is not a fraternity, nor is it a house of nice guys who do volunteer work in the community like Cale told them it was.  This shows how easily it is for girls to be deceived and misled.  Jenna was used to going unnoticed, but since she started college, she has two guys clamoring for her.

This is a good story that would be good for teens to read.  It is scary that this type of thing actually happens but I don’t want to ruin the book for you be saying too much.  It has romance, suspense, action and mystery.  I liked it because although I thought Jenna was a nut case and really didn’t care much for her, I was hoping she would be okay so the story kept my interest.

"The Burning Room" by Michael Connelly is Slow and Boring

The Burning Room by Michael Connelly has Harry Bosch with a new partner, a young girl named Soto.  They are on a case of a 10-yr.-old murder that they are trying to solve.  The main problem I have with this book is that it just moves slow and the action is very limited.  Michael Connelly books are usually pretty good, but this is not one of them.

Teaser Tuesday: 4 Today

Gerard's:

They're terrified to growl or snarl or even show their teeth, instead they just want to get as far away from his house as fast as they can.  I have my theories on why this is.
From page 26 of The Boy Who Killed Demons by Dave Zeltserman (Just finished this last week but it's so good, I wanted to do a teaser from it-- click link to see my review)
Swerving, she squeezed again on the brakes and jerked back the handlebars, and for a split second felt relief at managing to avoid impact with the dog.

Just before ploughing directly into the pedestrian at the end of its leash.

Karen's:

I think he called it, The Brotherhood . . ."  She gasped and lunged at me, gripping both of my shoulders.

"You mean there are more of them?"  She started a wild dance in the middle of our room and sang a song, something about "I love college."

If life deals you lemons, throw them at someone.
From page 8 of The Grumpy Guide to Life--Observations by Grumpy Cat.

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should  Be Reading. Anyone can play along, so I thought  I  would play for fun! Just pick two sentences from the book you are reading.

Happy Reading!

"The Grumpy Guide to Life--Observations by Grumpy Cat"

The Grumpy Guide to Life--Observations by Grumpy Cat is a small book with pictures of Grumpy cat on every page and bits of advice that are depressing, negative and none of which one should actually follow.  Although this, of course, is meant to be humorous, I just found it distasteful and felt sorry that this poor cat is portrayed this way just because of its looks.  Most of the advice is just twisting well-known sayings around.  Certainly, if you want to know how to become grumpy, this would be a very helpful and practical book for you.

"Picture Me Gone" by Meg Rosoff

Picture Me Gone by Meg Rosoff is about a father and daughter who live in England.  One day the father and daughter come to America to find a friend of his who has left his wife and baby and cannot be found.  The daughter tries to help and slowly puts the pieces together, but just when she thinks she has it solved, a twist comes and she is shocked.

This book was all right but moved too slow for my taste.  However, it kept my interest but the ending was okay, not great.
