"Low Pressure" by Sandra Brown
Low Pressure by Sandra Brown is a mystery about Bellamy who writes a novel based on the murder of her older sister which becomes a best seller. Although she used a pseudonym and didn’t use the real names, a reporter discovered it was based on fact and the author’s identity is exposed. She receives threats and begins to seek answers as to who is threatening her for writing about the murder. She had only been 12 at the time of the murder and her memory was spotty. Her investigation not only puts her in danger, but also others and secrets are brought to light. The killer was a big surprise to me! Along with the mystery is the romance between Bellamy (the rich girl) and Dent (the poor boy), one of her sister’s boyfriends who Bellamy had a crush on.
This book had an interesting enough story line to make me keep reading, but I can’t say it was an enjoyable read. I didn’t relate to any of the characters, the dysfunctional family with all the secrets, nor did I like the intimate sex scenes or the foul language. It just seemed far-fetched and unbelievable. After enjoying Unspeakable and Lethal by Sandra Brown, I was disappointed with this book.

"Unspeakable" by Sandra Brown
Unspeakable by Sandra Brown is an interesting novel because it has three main story lines and I only guessed the ending of one of them. The first is the two escaped convicts Carl and Myron, who can’t even stay out of trouble until meeting up with Carl’s brother. This bunch is mean! Another interesting story line is about the newly retired policeman, Ezzy and his preoccupation with an unsolved crime from 22 years ago. The third is about a deaf/voluntary mute widow, Anna, and her 5-yr-old son, David who live with her father-in-law on a ranch. Shortly after Carl and Myron escape from prison, John Sawyer, a drifter, suspiciously arrives to offer to be their ranch hand. Although he is a good worker and eventually Anna begins to fall for him, something just seems off about him.
This book is very well written too; it was easy to follow the different story lines and keep characters straight. I liked the character development which gave this book a realistic flavor and the fact that everything was explained in the end and there are no loose ends. Unspeakable is packed with humor, action, suspense, romance which mix together making this a really good read that kept my attention throughout! I highly recommend it.
Sample of humor: Ezzy, the forced retired cop’s description of a cruise:
She also had mentioned a cruise. He couldn’t think of anything worse than being stranded on a ship with a bunch of strangers and a hyperactive crew determined to see that he had a good time doing things he didn’t want to do.
Sample of mean: They had left the sisters resting in peace at the bottom of their water well with bullets in their heads.
Sample of action and suspense: Jack grabbed David’s hand and thrashed through the shallow water to shore. “Quick, put your shoes on. Get your clothes.” Jack scrambled into his jeans and picked up his boots. The triangle had stopped clanging, but Anna wouldn’t have used the emergency signal just for the hell of it.
Sample of romance: His arms tensed, tightening the embrace. Then, pressing her lips with his, he kissed her.
He thought Oh, Lord, oh, Lord, because her mouth was very soft and so sweet and temptingly receptive.
Moments later, it was he who initiated the exchange of tongues, but she responded favorably.

"Lethal" by Sandra Brown (UPDATED)
Wow! Oh WOW! What a thrill ride Lethal by Sandra Brown is! Honor and her 4-yr.-old, Emily, are taken hostage by Lee Coburn. Later on you think that might be a good thing, or is it? I never knew who the good guys and who the bad guys were in this book. After awhile, I just decided to quit trying to figure it out and went along with an outstanding read. If you want a page turner, this is it! I really enjoyed it a lot, including the ending. It has many twists and turns. I LOVED everything about Lethal: the characters were outstanding, the writing well done and the plot riveting!
(Gerard's review)
Lethal by Sandra Brown is full
of surprises! It is a thriller mystery with romance too and kept my
interest. Honor, a widow of a cop, and her 4-yr.-old daughter have the
adventure of their lives when they see a man lying in their
yard while baking cupcakes for the upcoming birthday party. This book
has suspense, adventure, mystery, organized crime and family ties all
wrapped up in it to produce a fantastic read. The relationship between
Emily, the 4-yr-old daughter and the mean
man is humorous and very entertaining. The FBI has its work cut out
for them when they are brought in to help catch a mass murderer and
track down the leader of a crime ring when no one knows who they can
trust. I liked the ending although it is a bit open-ended
for the reader to decide what happens next. I highly recommend this
book—it’s definitely a page turner that you get drawn into right away.
