"Missing You" by Harlan Coben

There are a ton of story lines in Missing You by Harlan Coben and all good ones!  One is about lady cop whose friend bought her a subscription to a dating site and she sees her ex-fiance's profile on it that she still has feelings for after 18 years.  This is a real page-turner with lots of twists that I did not see coming and a good ending.  Loved it!

"The Preacher's Bride" by Jody Hedlund

The Preacher's Bride by Jody Hedlund is historical fiction based on the true story of John Bunyon, the author of Pilgrim's Progress.  It is about the woman behind the great man who refused to preach God's Word in spite of imprisonment and persecution.  It takes place in Bedford, England during the mid-late 1600s.  Much of the book is about Elizabeth, before she became John's wife.  She started out as his housekeeper/nanny.  She was a good Puritan woman who gave sacrificially to help others and who suffered persecution just because she worked for John.

I felt sorry for Elizabeth through most of the book and learned how cruelly the Puritans who were poor were treated.  I think most women would enjoy this book since a great amount of it is about Elizabeth's feelings toward the men in her life, the children she took care of and her desire to do God's will in the face of danger.  This is the first book I have read by Jody Hedlund but intend to read some more; I enjoyed it!    Visit Jody's blog where you can find more of her books and learn about writing books:  Author, Jody Hedlund.

"Steal the North" by Heather Brittain Bergstrom is Really Good!

Steal the North by Heather Brittain Bergstrom is about a young girl who was sent away for the summer to her aunt.  What a REALLY GREAT BOOK!  I enjoyed it a lot!  It is told by the different characters throughout the book.  Loved the ending too.  Would make a good lifetime movie!

Remember Me Like This by Bret Anthony Johnston

Remember Me Like This by Bret Anthony Johnston is about a young teen boy named Justin who has been missing for four years.  One day he is found in a town not too far away, but that is just the beginning!  Justin returns home and finds that his dad, mom and younger brother are not the same, and he is not either.

Great play between the family members makes this book rock and they all have their own secrets that they are not telling!  I got into this one quickly with the great writing.  I really enjoyed it and now this is my new book of the month so far for May.

Tuesday Teasers: 4 This Week

Gerard's:
You're going to hate me, Emmy."  Finally she looked straight at me but remained standing.  "I mean really hate me before tonight is over with."

From page 6 of Steal the North by Heather Brittain Bergstrom.

He thought her voice would drip with grief, and despite his earlier resolve, he didn't want to hear her just then.  What Eric would remember for the rest of his life was how he almost didn't answer.
From page 17 of Remember Me Like This by Bret Anthony Johnston.
Karen's:
"Say no more."  He turned away from her.  "I promise I'll clothe myself, if you promise not to scare the children again."

From page 46 of The Preacher's Bride by Jody Hedlund.

"Now I think I have some idea of why you do it.  I always wondered how you could keep it up.  You know, after awhile I figured you'd get tired of it."

From p. 155 (Loc. 1980) Welcome to Fred by Brad Whittington

"Mercy Snow" by Tiffany Baker

Mercy Snow by Tiffany Baker starts of with a bus accident carrying a group of kids.  Someone caused the accident and two women will do everything in their power to see that the truth of it does not come out!  This is an enjoyable  page turner for sure.  I loved all the characters. (Gerard's review, 5+ stars)

"Tease" by Amanda Maciel: Two Opposite Opinions Here

Tease by Amanda Maciel is based on a true story and deals with bullying.  Two girls bullied another girl who killed herself.  The twist in this book is that it is told by one of the girls who did the bullying.  I thought that was a novel concept.  I really loved this book a lot!  I got into it from the first page and was always anxious to get back to it.  The characters are very believable and true to life.  The writing was very good as well.  So far, this is my book of the month for May.
(Gerard's review, 5++ stars)

I started reading Tease but didn't like it enough to finish it.  To me, the main character wasn't very likeable and I didn't care for all the swearing in it either.  It also kept jumping from the present to the past, back and forth which I found distracting and annoying.  Maybe it would appeal to a teen, but it didn't appeal to me.

"Horse Camp" by Nicole Helget and Nate LeBoutillier

Horse Camp was not what I expected at all, but then that was the same way the twins in the book felt when they were sent to their Uncle's farm when their mom had to go to jail and their dad went off to start a new church.  Their mom called it "horse camp" to make it sound like fun, but it only had two old mean horses with mostly pigs and chickens.  This is simply a YA novel about getting along with people and not judging others.  The most exciting part for me was when the tornado hit and Percy and his friend took cover in a culvert.

I didn't care for this one much but it was a quick read so went ahead and finished it.  Basically Christians are portrayed in this book as hypocrites, self-righteous and judgmental.  I do not recommend this one.

Tuesday Teasers: 4 Today

Gerard's:
My breath caught in my chest.  I started to feel dizzy.  I had counted on no one here knowing, or at least no one talking about it.

From page 11 of Love Letters to the Dead by Ava Dellaira.

"We're trying to get you out of this.  A girl is dead, and everyone wants to hold you and your friends accountable for what happened."
From page 8 of Tease by Amanda Maciel.  (Found this book recommendation in Entertainment Weekly.)
Karen's:
Though he rejected the role of scholar, he amazed his high school mates by bluffing his way through assignments, particularly book reports.  He never read any of the designated books but made up his own titles, authors, and plots.  What's more, he got away with it.

From page 33 of I Promised My Dad by Cheryl Landon Wilson with Jane Scovell.

Some sinful things are happening that require your immediate attention.  I pray really hard to keep the evil at bay, but I am only twelve and am not sure that I have your strength as a holy person.
From page 67 of Horse Camp by Nicole Helget and Nate LeBoutellier.
