Wildcard by Marie Lu is the follow up to Warcross. Emike was able to escape from being killed in the Warcross games. Now that she knows what hideo is up to, can she put a stop to it? I enjoyed this book. Emike is a wonderful character and there was plenty of action to be had. The middle sort of dragged but the last part of the book more than made up for it! It's not as good as Warcross, but readable to be sure.

Teaser from page 18: He pauses to look back at us. "Okay with what? That we're all sitting here, talking about the technicalities of how Emi should throw herself into a situation that might kill her?"

"Smoke in the Sun" by Renee Ahdieh
Smoke in the Sun by Renee Ahdieh is the follow up to Flame in the Mist. Mariko is trying to rescue her boyfriend from the Black Clan, Okami, but it will not be easy! This book does not have as much action as the first; however, it does have a very strong ending! Mariko is a strong, likeable character and I really enjoyed the parts of the book she was featured in. My thanks to the author for ending the story in two books instead of three. It is well worth reading.

Teaser from pg. 9: So Yumi had begun with a rock. The sound it had made as it struck the emperor's spirit tablet reverberated through her ears.

"The Whispering Room" by Dean Koontz
The Whispering Room is the follow up to The Silent Corner. Jane is still on the run to put an end to the madness of people killing themselves! At over 500 pages, this will take you awhile. However, there is good action with a bunch of different characters. Jane is a really good character as she is always one step ahead of the people trying to stop her. This is as good as the first book!
Teaser from page 11: Considering what she knew about certain powerful people, the best she could hope for was a bullet in the head. They had the means by which to do much worse to her, the ability to break her, to scrub her mind of memories, rob her of free will, and reduce her to docile slavery.

"After You" by Jojo Moyes
After You by Jojo Moyes is the sequel to Me Before You and picks up six months after Will killed himself. Louisa is having a hard time dealing with that, but she has carved out a life for herself. When someone from Will's past shows up, her life goes just a little bit crazy.
After You is not as good as Me Before You. That being said, I thought this book was pretty good. Louisa is great and the new characters are pretty good as well. The story line is just okay though, not great. Still, if you liked the first book, you should read this one too!

"Doctor Sleep" by Stephen King
When I started reading Doctor Sleep by Stephen King, the sequel to The Shining, it did not make sense to me. I picked it up a few days later to give it another go and then I finally caught on. This is about a little girl who has a special power that some people want to use for evil. Dad has the same power and fights against the evil trying to save the little girl from harm.
I enjoyed it once I got into it. There is good action and I especially liked the parts about the little girl.
(Gerard's review, 4.5 stars)
